Lara believes that “Furniture making is an Art form” and with this piece she expresses those sentiments so vividly and so substantially.

The cabinet itself is shaped like a frame. The edge's solid wood border is hand carved and gilded.

She wanted to create a three dimensional painting and the subject she chose was the Majestic Peacock. The Peacock represents Royalty and the bright tangerine red leather served as a striking backdrop for this work of Art. Her design sketches were inspired by Chinoiserie, first popularised in the 18th Century.

The piece took some time to make as she built the underlying sculpture piece by piece, moulding each flower and feather by hand from clay, and twine.

After creating the base she then overlays and sculpts the leather entirely by hand.

The process is then taken another step further as she artistically hand paints on the embossed surface with special leather paint.

Finally, LED lights that are positioned within the frame to accentuate the depth of the relief on the leather artwork.

The doors feature a push to open mechanism and the interior of the cabinet is just as beautifully finished in a rich dark mahogany as the top.

The piece is so stunning that when you look at it from a distance it almost looks as if it was embedded with gemstones!
